After more than a decade, Reading-based indie quartet Sundara Karma has called it quits. Their farewell announcement follows a huge comeback which began with the release of Better Luck Next Time. The band toured the record at the end of 2023, before embarking on a packed Summer of intimate gigs and enormous festival appearances.

Across three albums, the band have reached indie stardom with countless cult-favourites Flame, Explore, She Said, One Last Night On This Earth and Baby Blue.

Their music also translated to the live scene, notably headlining O2 Brixton Academy and recently supporting Catfish & The Bottlemen.

On social media, the band explained they’ve remained 'the best of friends’ and this is only the end of ‘making music as Sundara Karma’. The move came as a shock to thousands, who have already shown their appreciation online.

Musically, the rock band have always leaned towards exploration and experimentation and this may be a unique opportunity for each musician to pursue individual styles and seek out new ventures.

The Magic Gang, who are peers, have also recently closed their chapter of being in a band. Soon, they will solidify the decision with a collection of unreleased tracks. Sundara Karma may also the same idea - keep those eyes peeled.

Sundara Karma via Instagram:

“This has been one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make, but after years of sharing our music with you all, we’ve decided it’s time to close the most significant chapter of our lives so far. We’ve been a band for over twelve years and we’ve experienced things we could never have imagined. This journey has been nothing short of incredible!

As we’ve grown, so have our hopes and dreams, and we’re ready to explore new things. It’s not goodbye to music—it’s just time for us to step away from making music as Sundara Karma.

One thing that remains constant as we enter this new chapter is our friendship. We are, and always will be, the best of friends. The bond we’ve built over these years since starting the band as kids at school has only grown stronger, and that’s something we treasure as much as the music we’ve made together.

To every fan who came to our shows, listened to our music, or supported us in any way—thank you. You’ve been with us through it all, and we’ll forever be grateful for the love, energy, and time you’ve shared with us. It may sound trite to say, but we truly couldn’t have done this without you. You’ve made this experience unforgettable.”

To bid adieu to an adoring fanbase, they’ll be hitting the road once more in Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and London. Support comes from Overpass, except in Manchester. Tickets go on sale Friday 27th September (general) and Thursday 26th September (presale).
